April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 18

Day 18
Prompt:
pick 2 vowels and write a poem using words that only contain one or both of those vowels. For instance, write a poem with words that only have a “u” and “o.” Also, the letter “y” is wild–so the words “my” and “gypsy” are freebies.
*********************************************************************************

Wanderers

(vowels 'e' and 'a')

the aged embraces felt that all
we waded rage where rage was safe
we kept remembrances ephemeral
between three walls and seven chafes
we slaved and wandered, waxed and waned
caressed the beasts and let them free
whatever came, we faced the bane
relentless jetsam, heart and me

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 17

Day 17
Prompt: swing poem
*********************************************************************************

Changing Seasons

the strings of early autumn rain
stream through my veins and I often
dream that I´m falling leaves, I ride
the swings and slides of wasted time
that sling me higher and apart
I lose the roots of long reaped past
my youth is waltzing to its dusk
with the relentlessness of age
withering pieces of my heart
refuse to settle on the ground

On the edge of the sylvan woodland a dryad calls down the autumn leaves. My homage to the beautiful colours of autumn and dedicated to the memory of "The Emporer", Britain's largest stag taken down during the rutting season by a poacher this autumn.
Painted entirely in Corel Painter using one acrylic brush and one blender.

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 16

Day 16
Prompt: science poem
*********************************************************************************

Impasse

the scientists have always
been very keen on seeking truth
they like to put the world to use
to see life through a moon phase
to measure pain in cold days
and calculate affection rate
they register reflexes
by testing Ys and Xs
to see if X and Y can mate
when love is pictured in a graph
I'm asking the revered staff
without BUT or MAYBE
can X and Y be happy
if X and Y don't know math?

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 15

Day 15
Prompt: pick an adjective, make it the title of your poem
*********************************************************************************

Diaphanous

in principle, it's all simple
truth will out, all comes to light
but if we trust the filming
industry, a closer look hides a lie

obscurity dulls your senses
unless you know exactly where
what is, and yet dark advances
mysteries burn and secrets flare

so, next time you go out or stay in
watching the night be born and the day die
wonder if you see more when the sun's not shining
or, if it is, you see more of the sky

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 14

Day 14
Prompt: write an honest poem or write a dishonest poem
*********************************************************************************

honesty is hot tee
drunk in a gulp
before it's cooled

lies are lukewarm
water teasing
your thirst for truth
before you're schooled

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 13

Day 13
Prompt: confession poem
*********************************************************************************

Confessional

priests have always made me nervous
I’m a shitty liar
if there’s any decent purpose
to my life it’s fire
burning bridges, burning slowly
truth that needs no bleaching
what is burning on the surface
doesn’t make me holy
truth is something to aspire
born of no teaching
if you ever feel like preaching
I’m the perfect choir

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 12

Day 12
Prompt: damage poem
*********************************************************************************

Cracked

there’s only a thin wall between us
and I’ve known them all my life

she invites me for tea every Sunday
and he washes his car twice a day

her smile today is no different from
every Sunday smile she wears, maybe

her tea is a little colder than usual
but I’m seeping it anyway, looking

with a tickling curiosity at a cup
that is lying on the floor and maybe

I shouldn’t linger on the thought, it’s merely
a cup. She acts like she doesn’t notice

but I do notice a crack splitting
the cup from top to bottom. So what?

it’s lying in a stain of coffee, fresh
and there’s nothing special about

the scene, but she’s very meticulous
about cleaning, and he’s very meticulous

about her. When it’s time to go
they both see me to the door

her hands are restless, and he hasn’t
touched the cake she baked. I hug her,

holding her close for a second longer
than usual, watching the cup. I notice

the same coffee stain on the wall and
another little one on her bare shoulder

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 11

Day 11
Prompt: seasonal poem
*********************************************************************************

Seasonal

I tick with the world’s clock
and dance with it, spin around
I walk with it, tall and proud
I talk with it, we rock
and roll off the ninth cloud
I tick with the world’s clock
tick-tock, tick-tock

summer
adamant, passionate
raging, burning, crying
rain, mud, calm, snow
howling, freezing, melting
fragile, hopeful
spring

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 10

Day 10
Prompt: “How (blank),”
*********************************************************************************

How can I help you?

you said it yourself, son, you’ve grown
up and down the street is your own son

engaged and mortgaged and not listening
to his father either, prison is not

the worst thing that can happen in life
son, you may think it is, you’d think to run

may well be an option, but running has never
solved problems since Forest Gump, and even

then it didn’t, not really. Living means
fighting and losing battles, but winning

the war without losing yourself, and if
you’ve given up and want to let go of my
hand, son, how can I help you?

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 9

Day 9
Prompt: work poem
*********************************************************************************

Riddles Poem

Us

every morning – up and moving
shoving aside those who don’t let you shine
climbing higher, ever improving
What is it?

Sun

starting small and being no one
making the way up through thicket and dirt
with hundreds like him, yet alone
What is it?

Flower

day and night achieving quotas
running and running, forever in haste
only to vanish in larger waters
What is it?

River

male or female, peasant or king
not very different from flower or sun
or river, working, ever working
Who is it?

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 8

Day 8
Prompt: dare poem
*********************************************************************************

Creation

Come out, come out! I dare you make night and day.
Come out, I dare you grow, bring many a fruit.
You, I dare to breathe salty water. You there,
I dare you build your homes high and fly in the air.
I dare you live, and eat, and give birth, do you hear?
I dare you two to obey and to do what I say.
Nay, you lost. Now I dare you leave
and live on your own, if you dare,
daredevils!

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 7

Day 7
Prompt: love/anti-love
*********************************************************************************

Love Has No Fear, And Yet. . .

Look! The day is about to melt in the ravenous night
Listen! Silence means something loud is about to happen
Feel it chilling your senses, envelopping, wrapping
Fear is an ominous net for our heart to be trapped in

Cry! Your fearless tears are pure from hatred and spite.
Come! I’ll show you the eye of the storm in its beauty and might

See? Fear is only a part of our nature we tap in
Breathe! Let it go! It’s not fear, it’s love that you fight

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 6

Day 6
Prompt: things-not-as-they-appear
*********************************************************************************

Not at All

not a hero, not a knight
not a savior of the world
not a film star shining bright
not a hero, not a knight
no, I’m not always right
not a count, not an earl
not a hero, not a knight
not a savior of the world

please, stop rummaging my soul
simply love me, dear girl
you don’t have to know it all

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 5

Day 5
Prompt: Vegetable
*********************************************************************************

I Look Out of My Kitchen Window

and I see them be born and grow up
running around with tomato cheeks
petering into beanstalks
into black clothes and celtic crosses

as long as their juices flow
pumping fresh through their perfect bodies
everyone goes wondering
if there’s a seed of wisdom inside

yes, the sun has no mercy on them
sadly, they ripe too soon, old too young
preserved in stuffed offices
hung over, tasteless and watery

and I see them turn into squash
round, long, bear-shaped: gaudy yield
harmless you’d think, but look
they’re eating away at each other

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 4

Day 4
Prompt: departure
*********************************************************************************

Before Time

I know you don’t want to die
I wouldn’t either
it’s not even autumn yet
it’s not even cold

What? Crying? No, I won’t cry
it wouldn’t matter
my tears have never helped
I get it, you’re old

your skin is so fragile and dry
you want some water?
it’s pointless, yeah. don’t yell
just let it unfold

not yet, please, don’t say your goodbye
until it’s over
I’ll be with you, hold you tight
my sweet marigold

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 3

Day 3
Prompt: machine
*********************************************************************************

Singing Gears

the world is a big machine
hum-mum-humming its tune
tick-tock-ticking through time
clink-clank-clanging through wars
jing-jing-jingling through Christmas
chop-chop-chopping through pain

evolving and re-evolving
revolving the best it can

knock-knock-knocking on doors
bang-bang-banging on walls
bling-bling-blinking through riches
end-enduring need

inventing and re-inventing
venting and giving vent

lub-dub-dubbing with love
hiss-siss-sizzling with hate
dye-die-dying though life
liv-liv-living through death

the world is a big machine
work-work-working its ass off
for us

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 2

Day 2
Prompt: secret
*********************************************************************************

Under Willow Trees

Wait for me under willow trees
where the nightingale awakes.
Swing and dance
to the song of breeze,
to the song of breeze
meet the new day as it breaks.

I will run till death do us part
to the sound of battle drums;
no one will
ever stop my heart.
Never stop, my heart,
’til from under trees she comes!

Let no dream lead your mind astray
when it’s warm and night is black;
if I’m late
don’t you haste away,
don’t you haste away,
even if I don’t come back.

Wait and look among crooked roots,
find words that I carved out,
whisper them
when the first gun shoots,
when the first gun shoots
listen for my raspy shout,

“Wait for me under willow trees
where the nightingale awakes.
Swing and dance
to the song of breeze,
to the song of breeze
meet the new day as it breaks”.

April PAD Challenge 2015 Day 1

Last year I missed the November Challenge of WritersDigest's Poetic Asides, so I'm ready to work with doubled creativity and inspiration for this April PAD Challenge. The prompts are great as always and words just know when to pop up in my mind. I've chosen to explore the world this time, so all my poems will revolve around the amazing, surprising, inconspicuous, terrible and breath-taking things that comprise our beautiful world. World'Song is a working title for the Chapbook (which is not a necessity, but I like the idea of having some sort of an anthology), which will appear on this blog after the Challenge is over.

Ready, steady... Day 1
Prompt: resistance
*********************************************************************************

Wants and Dos

It has been snowing all morning
and no, I’m not projecting
I’m simply there expecting
the grotesque snowflakes to melt

It must, it has to be easy
to change the world for the better
as simple as a child’s letter
something everybody can do

It’s in me, this need for action
I’m thinking of it, I swear
the spring’s somewhat late this year
my soul feels salty and wet

I’m metal, my guts need etching
and maybe then I’ll appear
a hero without fear
metal without resists
